Sort your DMs into folders with AI

Want to see every support request in your Instagram DMs in one list? This template sorts each DM that AI recognises as asking for help into a folder, and sends nothing to the person.

Sort your DMs into folders with AI
About

Copy an Instagram template that sorts DMs asking for help into one folder with AI, so you answer from a single list. Nothing is sent to the person.

Copy this template to sort every DM that AI recognises as asking for help into one folder, with nothing sent to the person. AI recognises a support request from a sentence you can rewrite, and the contact lands in "Support: asked", so you open one list instead of scrolling your whole inbox.

This template ships one sorting rule: support requests go to one folder. One rule keeps the flow easy to read and easy to copy. Later in this page you see how to add a second rule by copying the template again.

What the template does, step by step

1. Someone sends you a DM

The trigger listens to your DMs. It checks every message in a conversation, including later ones, so a customer who writes to you three weeks after buying is sorted too.

Inrō waits 5 seconds after a person's last message before it checks them.

2. AI checks what the message means

The trigger does not look for a keyword. It uses AI-detected intent: you describe in plain words the kind of message you want to catch, and AI decides whether a new DM fits. The sentence that ships with the template reads:

"The person needs help with a product, app or account they already use that does not work. Not a short button reply such as Yes or Not yet. Not an order, a booking or a question before buying."

The first sentence says what to catch. The two "Not" sentences say what to leave out: short button replies, orders, bookings and questions from people who have not bought yet. Those messages are not filed as support requests.

3. They land in "Support: asked"

The only step adds the contact to the folder "Support: asked". That is all the template does. No message, button or email goes to the person, so the sorting is invisible to them.

Inrō Add contact to folder(s) step with the folder Support: asked

Filter your Inrō inbox by "Support: asked" and every conversation filed there shows in one view. A contact can sit in several folders at once, so being in this one does not remove them from the others. A person who is already in the folder stays in it when they write again.

Every matching message is checked.

What to change before you turn it on

The copy arrives turned off, and no field is left empty: there is no link, email address or message text to fill in. Four checks are enough.

Inrō DM trigger with AI-detected intent: the person needs help with a product, app or account
  1. The sentence. Open the trigger and read the sentence under AI-detected intent. "A product, app or account" is general. Replace it with what you sell, such as "an order, a download or a login", and keep the two "Not" lines so button replies and pre-sale questions stay out.
  2. The folder. When you copy the template, Inrō looks for a folder called "Support: asked" in your account and creates it if it is missing. Rename it if you prefer another name, or open the step and pick a folder you already use.
  3. The switch. Turn the automation on. A copy is off until you do.
  4. A test. Send a message that fits your sentence from another Instagram account, then check the folder.

Best tips for your scenario

  • Write the sentence for the kind of message you want to sort. Use plain words and say what to leave out, as the shipped sentence does with its "Not" lines. For price questions, another automation with an AI trigger can use: "The person asks the price, the cost or how much something is, in their own words. Not a short button reply such as Send the link or Yes, and not a question about a payment or an order already made." The more exactly you describe the message, the cleaner the folder.
  • Add one rule per folder. The template files into one folder. To sort a second kind of message, copy the template again from its share link, change the sentence and point the step at another folder, for example "Prices: asked". Each copy is its own automation, so each rule can be turned on, turned off and edited alone.
  • Keep sorting rules out of a priority folder. A priority folder is a folder of automations where only the highest one in the list runs when several match the same DM. In a normal folder every matching automation runs. Sorting rules belong in a normal one, so a message that fits two rules is filed in both folders.
  • Open the folder each morning. Filter the Inrō inbox by "Support: asked" and answer from that list. The template sends nothing, so the folder is where the requests wait.
  • Add a follow-up if you want one. Adding a contact to a folder can start another automation. Build a separate automation that starts when someone enters "Support: asked" if you want an acknowledgement sent or an alert on your side. The Inrō AI agent is another way to answer the requests.
  • Use the folder as an audience. A contact segment can filter by folder, and a DM campaign can send to a saved segment, so a folder you fill by sorting can become the list for a message you choose to send.

FAQ

Can Instagram sort my DMs into folders automatically?

This template does it by meaning. Each DM that AI recognises as a request for help is filed in the folder "Support: asked", with no reply sent. For the full setup of your inbox, folders and filters, read the Instagram inbox management guide.

Does the person get a message?

No. The template only adds the contact to a folder. What happens next is your choice: you answer from the folder, or you build a follow-up automation that starts when someone enters it.

Can it sort into more than one folder?

One rule files into one folder. To sort more kinds of message, copy the template again for each rule, with its own sentence and its own folder. A contact can be in several folders, so a message that fits two rules is filed in both.

Can I sort something other than support requests?

Yes. Rewrite the sentence under AI-detected intent in plain words, for example to catch price questions, and point the step at another folder.
