CRM folder

Definition

A CRM folder is a named label you put on contacts to group them, such as 'Hot lead'. In Inrō, one contact can sit in several folders, and adding a contact to a folder can start an automation.

A CRM folder is a named label you put on contacts to group them, such as "Hot lead" or "Bought the course". In Inrō it is simply called a folder. One contact can sit in several folders at once, and adding a contact to a folder can start a scenario.

What do you put in a CRM folder?

Contacts, grouped the way you think about them: by funnel stage, by what they bought, or by how they found you. The folder sits on the contact, not on one conversation, so it follows that person everywhere in the Instagram CRM in Inrō's smart inbox.

Once contacts are in a folder, you can filter your inbox by it. You can also send a DM campaign to everyone in a folder, or leave a folder out of one. Name folders by stage or relationship, not by month. The Free plan includes 10 folders and Pro has no limit (Inrō pricing, September 2026); see Inrō plans and prices.

Can a contact be in more than one folder?

Yes. A contact can be in "Webinar signup" and "Bought the course" at the same time. Adding a contact to a new folder keeps every folder they are already in. Removing them from one folder leaves the others alone.

How does adding a contact to a folder start a scenario?

Pick the trigger "Contact is added to a folder" and choose the folder it watches. The scenario then starts for each contact who lands in that folder, however they got there:

  • by hand, from a conversation
  • in bulk, from the inbox or the Contacts table
  • from another scenario, with the "Add or remove folder" step
  • from the AI agent, when it detects an intent
  • from an AI assistant connected through the Inrō MCP server, which can move contacts in bulk

So you drop a contact into "Hot lead" by hand, and the follow-up DM goes out on its own. One scenario can also add a contact to a folder that starts the next one.

Only adding counts. Removing a contact from a folder starts nothing, and adding someone to a folder they are already in does nothing. If you add many contacts at once, the scenario runs once for each of them, and each contact it acts on can count as a contact activation.

How is a folder different from a segment or a priority folder?

A folder is a list you control. Contacts stay in it until you or a scenario takes them out. An audience segment updates itself from filters, and "Contacts in a folder" is one of the filters it can use.

A priority folder holds scenarios, not contacts. For the other terms, see the Instagram automation glossary.
