A DM survey is a set of questions sent in an Instagram DM. In Inrō, a button in the DM opens the form in Instagram's in-app browser, and each answer can be saved to a contact property.
An Instagram DM survey is a set of questions you send in a direct message. In Inrō, the Send a survey step sends a card with a button. The button opens a form, and each answer can be saved onto the contact as a contact property.
You build the survey on the Surveys page, under Automation next to Scenarios. Then you add the Send a survey step to a scenario or a DM campaign. There are two types:
Meta opens a URL button in Instagram's in-app browser (Meta for Developers, button template, checked 1 October 2026), so the form opens inside Instagram. The card itself does not show on desktop (Meta for Developers, generic template, checked 1 October 2026).
Each question has an answer type:
Mark a question Required and the Confirm button stays disabled until it has an answer.
Under each question, Save reply to contact property lets you pick Email, Phone, one of your own properties, or a new one. When the contact taps Confirm, Inrō writes each mapped answer to that contact and replaces any earlier value.
Which types a property can hold is covered under contact property. Saved values show on the contact's profile in Inrō's Instagram CRM inbox. After submitting, the contact sees their answers and can tap Edit replies, and a new submit saves again.
A Multiple questions survey splits the flow in two:
The survey's Results tab lists the submissions, and Export results downloads them as a spreadsheet. The Survey contact filter finds who received and completed a survey, who received it but did not complete it, and who never received it.
For a flow that collects a name and email, see the template to capture leads from Instagram. More flow building blocks are in the Inrō automation glossary.
Attract more leads, target them with DM marketing, and automate all your interactions on Instagram!
