Recurring trigger

Recurring trigger

Definition

A recurring trigger is an automation trigger that fires on a schedule, daily, weekly or monthly, and starts the flow once for every contact matching its filters, instead of waiting for a comment, DM or story reply.

A recurring trigger is an Inrō automation trigger that runs on a schedule instead of waiting for a comment or a DM. Daily, weekly or monthly, it starts the flow once for every contact who matches your filters. It schedules DM flows, not posts: Inrō schedules posts separately, from Content.

How is a recurring trigger different from other triggers?

Every other trigger waits for an event, such as a comment, a DM or a story reply. A recurring trigger fires on the clock.

In the flow builder it is called "On a recurring schedule" and sits with the contact triggers. Each time it fires, it starts one run of the flow per matching contact. For the other entry points, see the Instagram automation glossary.

How do you set the schedule and the audience?

You pick how often and the time of day, in your account's time zone. Weekly runs on the weekday you choose, monthly on the day of the month you choose. When a month is too short for that day, the run moves to the month's last day, so day 31 runs on 30 April.

The audience comes from contact filters, combined with AND or OR. You can target only your followers, or only the contacts you tagged in your Instagram CRM inbox. With no filter, the flow runs for all your contacts. The scenario must be active, or the trigger does not fire.

What stops it messaging the same people again and again?

Before each run, Inrō checks:

  • Only new contacts matching filters. When on, each firing reaches only contacts this flow has never run for. It is off by default, so every firing reaches the whole audience again.
  • Runs in progress. A contact whose run from an earlier firing has not finished is skipped, so nobody is in the same flow twice at once.
  • The flow's own guards. Every run still passes the flow's sending limits, its excluded folders and your account-wide excluded contacts.

Each contact a run acts on counts as one contact activation per billing period, however often the schedule fires. The size of your audience drives the count, not the frequency.

Is a recurring trigger the same as a scheduled campaign?

No. A scheduled DM campaign sends once, at the date and time you set. A recurring trigger repeats its flow for as long as the scenario stays active.

Use it for jobs that repeat: a weekly DM to people who followed you that week, a daily tip to one segment, or a monthly win-back flow for contacts gone quiet. Developers can create the same trigger through the Inrō public API, as trigger type recurring.
