Excluded contacts are the contacts that match the filters in Inrō's account-wide Exclude specific contacts setting. Inrō keeps them out of every scenario, checking before a scenario starts and again before each step.
Excluded contacts are the contacts that match one set of filters you save for your whole Inrō account, in the Exclude specific contacts card on the Scenarios page. Inrō keeps them out of every scenario. You set the rules once, and every scenario follows them. To leave contacts out of a DM campaign, use Don't send campaign to when you set it up.
Inrō checks your exclusion rules before a scenario starts for a contact. If the contact matches, no run is created: nothing is sent, and the contact does not appear in that scenario's results.
The check reads the contact as they are at that moment. A contact you moved into a folder your rules exclude a minute ago is already kept out.
Inrō checks again before every step of a scenario that is already running. If a contact starts to match partway through, their run stops at the next step. That is a mid-flow interruption.
On the Scenarios page, open the Exclude specific contacts card with its Settings button. A badge on the card shows how many filters are set.
The rules use the same contact filters you use to build segments. You choose whether a contact must match all of your filters or any one of them. Filters can read a contact's folder, status, username, email, contact properties and past activity, so you can build on the folders and statuses in the Inrō CRM.

Each scenario also has its own Exclude specific folders setting in the flow builder. It keeps contacts in those folders out of that one scenario only. The most common use is keeping a Customers folder out of your lead-generation flows, such as a comment-to-DM automation.
The account-wide rules apply on top of each scenario's own folders, to every scenario. Use the card when a contact should never enter any scenario. Use a scenario's folders when only that flow is wrong for them. For how scenarios fit together, see how Instagram DM automation works.
Check the Exclude specific contacts card before anything else. A contact who matches one of your filters is skipped by every scenario, and from the outside that looks like broken automation. Edit or remove the filter, and the contact's next trigger is checked against the new rules.
If the card is clear, work through the causes of Instagram DM automation not working. For the other terms around contacts, see the Inrō automation glossary.
