Meta Tech Provider

Meta Tech Provider

Definition

A Meta Tech Provider is a business Meta has verified, through access verification, so that other businesses can grant its apps permissions such as Instagram and Pages access. It is separate from App Review and can lapse.

A Meta Tech Provider is a business that Meta has verified, through a check called access verification, to let other businesses use its apps. Without it, other businesses cannot grant those apps permissions such as instagram_business_basic. For the full story, see what a Meta Tech Provider is and why it matters.

What does Meta's Tech Provider status mean?

Meta defines tech providers as businesses with a legitimate need to access data owned by other businesses, in order to provide services to those businesses (Meta for Developers, Tech Providers, checked 1 October 2026).

  • It guards a list of permissions, among them Instagram, Pages, Threads, ads and WhatsApp management.
  • It is checked at the API. When an app calls an endpoint that needs one of them, and the person who granted it has no role on the app, Meta checks whether the app's business is verified. If not, the call fails.
  • It belongs to the business. Once a business is verified, every app it claims passes the check.

How does a business become a Tech Provider?

Meta's access verification documentation sets out the steps:

  1. The business completes Business Verification, and its business account has no restrictions.
  2. A business admin opens the form in the App Dashboard, under Basics, Verifications, Access verification.
  3. The admin describes how the business uses other businesses' data to provide a service to them.
  4. Meta decides within about 5 days and emails the business admins (Meta for Developers, access verification, checked 1 October 2026). A business that is turned down can apply again if its use case changes.

What does Tech Provider status not mean?

  • It is not App Review. Each permission still needs Advanced Access through App Review before people outside the app can grant it.
  • It is not permanent. The status lapses if the business becomes unverified, the app is disconnected from the business, or the business account is restricted. It comes back on its own once that is reversed.
  • It is not needed for your own app. People with a role on an app pass the check without it.
  • It covers one business. Only the apps it claims pass, not tools from other companies, including those you link through Inrō integrations.
