Card template

Definition

A card template is an Instagram DM carousel: one message holding up to 10 swipeable cards, each with a title, an optional image and subtitle, and up to 3 buttons. Meta calls it the generic template.

A card template is an Instagram DM carousel message: one DM holding a row of cards your contact swipes sideways. Each card has a title, an optional image and subtitle, and up to 3 buttons. Meta names it the generic template. In Inrō, the Shopify link step sends one, with a card for each product.

What can a DM carousel hold?

Meta allows up to 10 cards in one message and up to 3 buttons per card, according to the Meta for Developers page on the generic template (checked 1 October 2026). Each card carries:

  • a title of up to 80 characters, plus an optional subtitle of up to 80
  • an optional image, and a default action when the contact taps the card
  • buttons of two kinds: a URL button that opens a link, or a postback button that sends the tap back to your automation

A card needs its title plus at least one other part. Meta's docs also say the template is not available on desktop.

How do you send a product carousel from Inrō?

Add a Shopify link step to a scenario or a campaign. It sits under Integrations in the step picker once your store is connected. Each product becomes one card: its title, its price, its image and a View product button.

You choose the products with Select manually, From collection, From product tag or From search query. The tag and the query accept variables, so the cards follow what the contact asked for. Max products caps how many cards go out. The button opens the product page or goes straight to checkout, with an optional discount code. If nothing matches, Inrō skips the step and the flow carries on.

Can a carousel branch your flow?

Not the Shopify one. Its buttons are links, so a tap opens your store and the flow does not split.

When the tap itself should pick the next step, use the button template, where each button gets its own branch, or Instagram quick replies for short tap-to-answer choices.

When does a carousel beat one card?

When the contact has to pick between several products or offers in one message. Pair the carousel with a comment-to-DM automation on a product post, and check Inrō plans and prices for which plans include integrations. More flow building blocks are in the Inrō automation glossary.
