The Instagram AI label is the AI info tag Meta shows on a post to disclose AI use. Through Meta's publishing API it is a flag, is_ai_generated, set when the post is created and never added afterwards.
The Instagram AI label is the AI info tag Meta shows on a post to disclose that AI was used. When a tool publishes for you, the label is a flag on the post itself, is_ai_generated, and Meta's API accepts it only while the post is being created. You decide before you publish, not after.
Meta added the flag to the Content Publishing API on 22 June 2026. The Instagram Platform changelog on Meta for Developers says to set is_ai_generated to true when you create the media container, and Instagram applies the AI info label (Meta, checked 1 October 2026).
A container is the object the API builds before a post goes live. Publishing the container makes the post. The Meta content publishing guide adds that the flag works with both Instagram API with Facebook Login and Instagram API with Instagram Login.
Because the API has no call for it. The Meta IG Media reference lists is_ai_generated as a field you can read on a live post. Its update call accepts one field only, comment_enabled (Meta, checked 1 October 2026).
So a scheduler, an automation or an AI assistant that publishes for you cannot fix a missing label later through the API. If the flag was off when the container was created, the post goes live without it.
On the Content page, open the draft of a single image or video post, a Reel or a Story, and turn on AI-generated content. The toggle reads: Turn this on if the image or video was generated with AI. It is there while the post is a draft or scheduled. Once the post is live, Inrō no longer lets you change its content, and the toggle is no longer offered.
When Inrō creates the container for one of these with the toggle on, it sends is_ai_generated: true to Meta. Scheduling or publishing also needs Instagram's publishing permission on your account. For the whole draft, schedule and publish flow, see Inrō content publishing.
Yes. The Inrō public API takes is_ai_generated when you create or update a draft post or story, with the same rule: set it before publishing. Each call carries a token, covered in the Inrō API token entry.
The Inrō MCP server carries the same field, so an AI assistant connected to Inrō can switch the label on when it drafts a post for you. More publishing and automation terms are in the Inrō automation glossary.
